Biography, Training and Statement:
I have always enjoyed sketching and etching with pen and Ink. One of my earlier classes in Photography and Printing at S.F. City College was fun and inspirational. A fellow student and I created sketches of the Japanese Tea Garden in S.F. G.G. Park. We then arranged the basic printing layout, inserted the sketches and wrote descriptions of each one. We then printed and made brochures. We then sold brochures to the Japanese Tea Garden to be used for tourist help guide. This was my start in the Printing Arena. I worked in the Printing trade until my retirement in 2008.
Since retirement I’ve been sketching and painting and exploring the Art Communities and Galleries.
Work Type:
My work is usually done using Photos of the subject and preliminary sketches. I can then change the layout and dimensions and add or subtract images as I see fit. A few subjects are in Benicia and the surrounding Bay area counties. Ocean scenes, lakes and mountains. I like detail in most of my paintings but I’m trying to be tranquil about that in future paintings.
Paint Mediums:
I work with Watercolor, Acrylics and Gouache, Pen and Ink.
Favorite:
Watercolor is my favorite. There is little smell, clean and fast. Watercolor offers so many opportunities to create design with accidents that happen along the way only adds to my knowledge of the medium.
Size:
My majority of paintings are 11x14 to 24x30. Some Landscapes are 8” to 9” high and 20” to 24” in length.
